Thank you to all the parents and students who attended conferences this week.  Teamwork between the teachers, students, and parents is what makes a successful Intermediate student!

We will be viewing the play Peter and the Starcatcher at Dominican High School on  November 3.  Students will need to pack a bag lunch.

I heard from a couple of parents that they were having trouble finding actual grades for their child.
They were able to find the assignments, but not the actual class grade.

If you go to your child’s page in OPTION C, and look in the upper left-hand corner for STUDENT.
Click on that and you we see the drop-down menu for classes.  Click on classes and you will be able to see how your son or daughter is doing in all of their classes.

Hope this helps, please let me know if you have any questions contact Mr. Bradford.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN

4A Mr. Bradford

Short week, Fall Break!

Starting this week, I will try calling
each of you to see how 4th grade is going after our first month of school.  I have found this to be a great opportunity to hear and learn about your child.   Please let me know if there is a good or better time to call in the evening.

Reading
Continued reading of Ralph S. Mouse, focusing on character development and comprehension.  Look in assignment notebooks to check for assigned reading at home.

Reading Logs:  Please note there are two sides, one for each week.  You only have to sign the bottom of each side of the log, next to the total minutes; not each time your child reads.
There will be no spelling this short week.

Science
We are going to study changing states of matter by looking at bags of dirt.  My favorite piece of matter project is being sent home this week.  Each child has received an outline for the project.

Although we will continue with some matter experiments, we will have a test next Tuesday the 17th.

Social Studies

This week we started Chapter 3, Wisconsin's First People. The chapter covers pp. 38-57. They will be taking notes in class on each of the Native American groups. With the notes, they will be writing summary paragraphs on each of the groups.  The two tests from last week will be sent home in the Monday folder on Monday, Oct. 9. The tests do not need to be signed. The children did very well on their first big tests.

Math

This week we closed Chapter 2, Adding and Subtracting Whole Numbers and Decimals.  The students struggled with knowing how to perform the problem based on directions as well as accurately performing the operations.  These two areas will need to be revised and can be corrected with practice.  It was evident during the test which students studied using the pretest and which students did not. Based on the last two test outcomes, I plan to decompress the subject matter and provide shorter assessments.  That all being said, this week we will take a look at the three addition properties.  Then we will move into Chapter 3.  We will start with using patterns found in  multiplication to help solve problems.

Language Arts/Writing
With a short week, we will continue to write about summer fun.
We have finished nouns and will test on Wednesday the 11th.

Religion

We are still holding the doors on most days as we continue to become our back door greeters.  In class, we are looking at Virtues.  They are  Faith, Hope, Charity, Fortitude, Justice, TemperancePrudence.

Parents, please remember to send HOMEWORK folders for your child's binder.  Any folder will do, just make sure it fits in their binder and is 3-holed punched.

Welcome to the new library 4th graders!  Today we went to the library to check out books and read a bit.  This is an opportunity that your kids will have during our reading time every couple weeks.  They were thrilled to go down and have this opportunity to get more books.  The picture above really was a candid shot!

Reading
Reading Logs due Monday
No spelling this week due to short week.
We are working on completion of the Witches unit.  Kids will bring it home to finish reading chapters.  Comprehension will also go along with these later chapters. In addition, we will practice inference but finding examples in the book where we can infer what is happening.  We will also discuss and apply figurative language.
