It is told from the perspective of 12-year old Anna living on the prairie in the 1800s.  It won the 1986 Newbery medal. Students will work on comprehension and vocabulary throughout this unit.  Students will then work on reading skills author's purpose and cause and effect.

During this Lenten season, we are looking at practicing kindness.  I ask the class to come in early at least once to help me out with the simple act of kindness.  I try to do this before school at about 7:30.  If you are able, I understand the limitations, to bring your child in at 7:30, please ask them to sign up with me for a day.

As a part of our mass, we have asked each of the other classes to list acts of kindness that they have witnessed. we will be posting the entire school's acts of kindness in the hallway.

The Iditarod starts tomorrow.  The students each received  a couple of mushers that they have looked up and know a little about.  Some of these mushers do not look like your typical athletes, but their team of dogs definitely does.
Each student can go on and track their musher, on Iditarod.com
